Simple columnar - Nutrient absorption and mucus production - Examples: intestine, goblet cell
Simple cuboidal - Specialized in secretion and reabsorption of small molecules - Examples: renal tubules, endocrine glands
Simple squamous - Allows substance exchange - Examples: vascular endothelium, alveoli
Stratified columnar - Specialized in mucus production - Examples: epididymis, mammary glands
Stratified cuboidal - Secretes water and electrolytes; only found in sweat glands
Stratified squamous - Protects against dehydration, infection, and abrasion - Examples: skin, mouth, vagina
